Stefan Asbury has been appointed as the Chief Conductor of Noord Nederlands Orkest based in Groningen. He succeeds Michel Tabachnik. With a contract of 10 weeks per season Asbury’s first concert in the position will be Autumn 2011. Speaking last week, Marcel Mandos, Artistic Manager / Programmer for the orchestra said, “The NNO is delighted with the appointment of Stefan Asbury. He is a wonderful interpreter and visionary. He's a great artist and top conductor.”

Formerly Music Director of the Remix Ensemble Casa da Musica Porto and currently Artist in Association with the Tapiola Sinfonietta, Asbury has served on the faculty of Tanglewood Music Center since 1995, currently holding the Sana H. Sabbagh master teacher chair on the Conducting Faculty and having previously been Associate Director of New Music Activities.
